PHOTOSYNTHESIS

Alien Workshop's seminal video Photosynthesis(2000) was the first skate video I ever bought with my own money. I remember going to my local shop Special Sauce(RIP) with my nice, crisp birthday money and picking it up along with a nice, new Geoff Rowley Flip New Wave board. While not being the first I've ever seen or having the biggest impact on my style(see: Ed Templeton in Welcome to Hell and my obsession with Dickies pants and trucker hats for 7th-9th grade), it's probably my favorite video ever. It's the first time i heard Iggy Pop and the Stooges and the first time I saw anyone skate at Love Park in Philadelphia. It also showed me people whose skating I still enjoy today: Anthony Van Engelen, Fred Gall, Anthony Poppalardo and Josh Kalis. My favorite part in Photosynthesis belongs to Jason Dill. His part focuses mostly on skating in New York City, something I'm fairly familiar with. He has one of my favorite lines ever put into a video which includes him picking up his board, walking down a set of stairs and the ollieing down the second set. My mind was blown the first time I saw that. It also has one of the only Radiohead songs in it that doesn't bother me or make me want to go to sleep.

Watch the part here.
